Middlethorpe Stables, York

This project involved the conversion of a derelict listed stable block and coach house into 6 cottages. The building was in a very poor state of repair, some roofs had fallen in and the first floors were either collapsed or on the brink of collapse. The building was carefully made safe and bricks were recovered from the ruins for re-use. The only bricks having to be bought in were 80 bullnose bricks to build a pillar which had previously been timber. The cobbles from the stable floors were recovered and used for the parking area. Each of the 6 cottages were sympathetically created to enhance the individual features which were retained from the original building wherever possible.
